DYMO Camp 2008 Staff Members

Meet the Staff!

Beth Stapleton

Beth Stapleton, Senior DYMO Camp Director. Beth has been involved with DYMO for the past 14 years. Currently, she's a history teacher at Flat Rock High School near Detroit, which is also where she met her husband, Joel. (Their students set them up!) Beth is also a cheerleading coach, a class advisor, and going to graduate school for a Masters in School Counseling. She values her family more than anything, and adores her little sister Annie (who is also on staff). She forces room into her schedule for scrapbooking and crossoword puzzles. We have to add that she consumes more Diet Coke than the average person.

Dianna Rottiers

Dianna Rottiers, DYMO Camp Director. Dianna has one supportive husband (no polygamy here!), two gorgeous golden retrievers and three busy teenagers! Yikes no wonder there is so much gray hair. The Rottiers family are parishioners at St. Pius X, avid Grandville sports fans, and raise future assistance dogs for Paws With A Cause. Dianna loves puppies, reading, playing games, gardening and hanging out with friends. She lives from the heart and by the Sacramental Principle: We can come to know God through EVERYTHING in his creation! And she can't wait to see YOU at Camp 2008.

Bob Bacik

Bob Bacik, junior DYMO Camp Director. Bob has the amazing ability to solve any problem with a rubber band, duct tape and a binder clip… really. He is obsessed with blueberry Jolly Ranchers and speaks fluent Junior High. Bob, a proud alumnus of Lumen Christi High School and GVSU, serves as the CYM at St. Anthony of Padua in Grand Rapids (www.saparish.com). Though he most enjoys being with friends and family, he loves coming to work each day. Bob would also like you to know that he drives a station wagon and that the rules of spelling do not apply to him.

Larry Barton

Larry Barton and his wife have three cats but no children, although it is not uncommon to find people living in their spare rooms, or to find all the chairs around their dinner table occupied. His skewed perspective on life helps him to see beyond the world that has been pulled over our eyes. Larry is an imaginateur, a dreamer, and a musician. He can’t dance, but he can sing. He likes to learn stuff, and is currently learning Spanish. Larry is a graduate of Aquinas, and still lives in the neighborhood. He spends a lot of time at St. Mary’s Church in downtown Grand Rapids. The parish, by most appearances, appreciates it. His personal "soundtrack" includes Pure Imagination from the old Willie Wonka movie.

Rebecca Chicklon

Rebecca Chicklon is from a large and loud family — so chaos, craziness and fun are very familiar to her. She is married, and currently her family consists of herself, her husband John and their two very spoiled cats, Tigger and Junior. She absolutely loves cats of any kind and has a great story to tell about an experience with a bobcat. (Ask her.) She loves animals and kids of all ages. She "loves" Mountain Dew and just about anything chocolate. (Since, if you love something, it means you want the best for them... well, the best for MD & chocolate is in the stomach (he, he!) wouldn’t you agree? Rebecca's music interests are very eclectic. She enjoys many types of music and especially like Go Light Your World by Kathi Trocolli. She graduated from Aquinas College (yeah-AQ!) and is currently serving as the Coordinator of Youth Ministry at Holy Family in Sparta. She feels a strong sense of purpose and living out God’s call through all she does. She's looking forward to seeing you at DYMO Camp this summer and hopefully sharing her faith (and even some MD or chocolate!)

Joyce Christian

Joyce Christian grew up in Pewamo, Michigan, is married to Bill and has three children: Billy, Joe and Elizabeth. She coordinated Youth Ministry for three years in New Jersey, and for seven years at St. Pat's in Portland, Michigan. She has a four-year degree in psychology and took an abundance of theology classes at Franciscan University of Steubenville, graduating there in 1981. She also completed the three-year Called To Serve course from the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Joyce has been involved in liturgical music since high school and still enjoys leading a Sunday Mass group at St. Pat's. She is presently working towards her doctorate in naturopathy.

Mary Doring

Mary Doran always finds it amazing how you can look back at the last year of your life and see how much you've changed. Some things that haven't changed though: Laughing is always the best cure. For anything. She works with 1-2 year olds and can't believe how much they change in that one year. Birds scare her. Having three brothers and three sisters makes life very exciting with new news coming every day. Her dream job is to be a professional organizer.

Keith Fuleki

Keith Fuleki is an Aquinas College graduate, whose major course of study was biology and whose minor courses of study were chemistry and developmental psychology. With luck he will be a physician in four years — he is moving to Pennsylvania this summer for medical school! His interests include Hungarian cuisine, exercise, dog-walking, and sunshine. This summer, he is working the Conductive Education center of Grand Rapids to provide physical and cognitive therapy for children with cerebral palsy. He thinks these kids are better than pie. He enjoys language: he is able to speak basic Spanish and might be learning Hungarian. DYMO is something he looks forward to now just as much as he did in high school — he hopes to see you there!

Noelle Garcia

Noelle Garcia is über cool. She was born in Texas, lived in Colorado and Tennessee, and now lives in Michigan! She is the Youth Ministry Coordinator for St. Patrick Catholic Church (Portland, MI) and loves her job a lot. She thinks youth ministry is the best job in the world because what other job pays you to eat pizza and play ultimate frisbee with cabbages? Noelle is totally on fire for the Catholic Church and wants to lead teens closer to Christ everyday! Noelle also tours around the country doing concerts and speaking to youth groups - check out her CD at www.noellegarcia.com. In July she will be in Australia singing with John Angotti and Steve Angrisano at World Youth Day!

Renee Hornby

Renee Hornby is a middle school teacher in Lansing (she just acts like a student). A proud alum of both Alma College (Go Scots!) and Michigan State University (Go Spartans!) Renee spends much of her time traveling or working. Having lived in Michigan all her life, she thinks it's a tragedy she's never been to Canada, so she'd like visit and say "Eh," one day.

Dave Johnson

Dave Johnson has two nephews and three nieces he loves very much. Unfortunately, they live in Wyoming (the state, not the city) and Atlanta (soon), which is much too far away. (He also loves the rest of his family.) He likes his mountain bike, but feels it is often neglected from lack of use. Dave spends a lot of time in Holland (the city, not the country) at Our Lady of the Lake Church where he is the Director of Faith Formation. Dave has been a part of DYMO since 1999 and each year gains more from those he meets at camp than ever could be expected... He thoroughly enjoys spending 24 hours a day with youth, without a break, for 7 days and 6 nights. "DYMO Camp is AMAZING!"

Fr. Larry King

Fr. Larry King grew up with a shadow following him around. It was his same size and shape, but somehow looked different. His parents thought it was funny and named it "Bill." He simply called him his TWIN.

Jim Kulfan

Jim Kulfan is married to Carol, and has three children. Jim is the Parish Administrator for St. John Vianney Parish and worships at St Pius X. Jim has been involved in various ministries for thirty years, including being on DYMO Staff for the same period. Jim enjoys camping and golf and is nuts about Disney.

Nick Kwiek

Nick Kwiek is a member of the worshipping community at the Catholic Information Center, a Theology student at Aquinas College, and a substitute teacher in the Grand Rapids Public Schools. He enjoys old-timey bluegrass and local music, among other things. He is related to Grizzly Adams and Santa Claus.

Nicole Lanning

Rachael Lynch

Rachael Lynch is from the Grand Haven area and grew up at St. Anthony Parish, in Robinson Township. While at St. Anthony's she was involved in youth, clown, and migrant ministries. Rachael also spent two years at DYMO camp! She is still friends with many of the people she met then... like Erin O'Lonergan. She is a recent graduate of Aquinas College in Elementary Education and just completed her student teaching at St. Mary's school in Spring Lake. Her top five favorites include: Faith, family, friends, working with kids and chocolate!

Michelle Masselink

Michelle Masselink listens to music as long as it's bluegrass, country, ska, or hippyish... or punk. Yeah, she likes lots of stuff. Johnny Cash tops the list. Ask her about Mongolia and El Salvador—but only if you have the time to listen, because she's got a lot to tell. Oh, and give her a pink straw, or she won't drink her Slurpee.

Alicia McClure

Alicia McClure Doesn't live around here. She used to. We like her so much, we let her come back to Camp again and again.

Bill Mousel

Wild Bill (Mousel) is kept in a cage at St. Francis de Sales, Holland. We will again let him out to do Camp for the 16th time this year. He has many skills, like math skills and shaving skills. Don't be afraid of him; you may safely approach.

Erin O'Lonergan

Erin O'Lonergan has two families (one of which is not blood related). She has just graduated from Aquinas College with a degree in learning and living. She plans to go wherever the wind (Spirit) blows, have grand adventures, and simply love the world. Her motto for life right now is: If you can talk, you can sing. If you can walk, you can dance. She is a girl of few favorites (the only food she dislikes is celery). Her interests include: singing, dancing, laughing, playing (dress up), breathing, languages, people, nature, adventures, chirping frogs, kiwi, stars, grapefruit juice, and the divine.

Annie Otto

Annie Otto If "Quality People" had an entry in the encyclopedia, Annie would be in the photo.

The Mongoose

Alex "The Mongoose" Robinson is a senior at Western Michigan University where he is studying to be a high school physics teacher. He has worked at various coffee shops for the past seven years and has studied Muay Thai and Sho-bu-do Jujitsu for the past seven months. He is a clown... that's right... and has been for the past 14 years... nose, make up, unicycle, juggling, stilts, balloon animals and all. Have you heard the song "Show Me the Way" by Styx? Because, if you haven't, you really should.

Kim Rowland

Kim Rowland is currently teaching teaching Middle school at Blessed Sacrament School. Next year she will be a part of the All Saints Academy staff (a new Catholic School in Grand Rapids). Before venturing into the dense jungles of Middle School, she was involved with other Monkeys as a Coordinator of Youth Ministry. She lives in Jenison with her husband and Jack Russel Terrier. In her spare time— which comes seldom— she enjoys coaching softball, reading, writing and kayaking.

George Rutherford

Sally Sremba

Sally Sremba is a proud lifelong Catholic that enjoys learning new things and asking questions. She could list all the things She enjoys, but instead here's some of the things that are quite unique about her: She enjoys organizing paperwork and doing busywork; her favorite time of day is 12:34 AM or PM; she collect quotes; she's not a big fan of jewerly (unlike most women); and she'd rather be outside than inside ANY day (okay, so that last one wasn't very unique!) Her all-time favorite song that inspires her is "The River" by Garth Brooks.

Jan Wilcox

Jan Wilcox is the Director of High School & Young Adult Ministry and Youth Confirmation at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Portage. She grew up in Lansing and got a degree from WMU in Interpersonal Communications and Comparative Religion. Since she was hired before she graduated, she has stuck around the Kalamazoo area. She was "dragged, kicking and screaming" into DYMO last year by her Grand Rapids-area colleagues, and now thinks it is an absolute blast! She is so excited to be back on staff this year, and is already committed through 2009 as the CPC co-coordinator. Her friends think she is crazy to spend her week off in the summer volunteering in youth ministry, but she loves her job. Where else do you get paid to hang out, go to camp, go on mission trips, and praise Jesus?! Her personal play list would best be described as "eclectic", but her top 5 currently would include Matt Maher, Jackson Browne, Jack Johnson, Brad Paisley, and Sarah Bareilles.
